WHY WE CREATED THIS BRACELET?
After our blog article, Costa Rican Environmentalist Murder Sparks PV To Create The Save The Sea Turtles Collection!, which tells all about how On May 31st, 2013 a 26 year old Costa Rican environmentalist, Jairo Mora, was murdered because he was fighting for a cause to protect leatherback turtles from poachers. Mora was a biology student, and worked for the Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Conservation Network (Widecast), a non-profit organization. After he posted on his Facebook page making a plea to the police to take action against the poachers on Moin Beach, in Costa Rica, the hueveros (egg thieves) felt he was a threat. The colors were chosen strategically by our team to represent "The Sea Turtle" campaign. The GREENS represent the Sea Turtles. The SAND tie string represents the sandy beaches being raided by "hueveros". Lastly, the RED knot represents the illegal sale of the Sea Turtle eggs, the killing of the Leatherback Turtles and the murder of Jairo Mora. We hope this brings a little bit more clarity into the planning on the "Save the Sea Turtles" bracelet we created.
